Attack victim wants Spring bear hunt back

Gerald Marois, the man mauled by a black bear in the Orillia area recently, recounts the details of his horrific attack.

“His head was huge, his eyes were really far apart from each other and he had tiny, tiny ears, which is the sign of a huge boar — probably 600 pounds.” said Marois

“I was hitting him on the nose and on the head, trying to hurt him, and every time I hit him he was scraping me and just pulling on my boots.”

“I was kicking him with the other boot and he grabbed that boot and he ripped it right off.”

“Then he dragged me almost to the ground.”

The bear then tried to rip off Marois’s chest waders.

“That was messing him up, because they were coming back like an elastic, eh? And it was hard for him to rip them off.”

But the bear eventually got them.

“Then he started eating my flesh.”

Marois said he watched as the bear started eating into his right calf.

“He was eating my meat and he was licking the blood and licking himself and just enjoying every bite of it.”

Mr Marois is one fortunate individual. He is alive because he fought back and because he is just plain lucky, and his final statement regarding the spring bear hunt speaks for itself:

“I want (Premier Dalton McGuinty) to reconsider the spring bear hunt, so this doesn’t happen no more.”

  1. Too bad for Mr. Marois, it must have been very very scary, but Dalton doesn’t listen to the litlle people

    1. Iggy, according to Mr Marois’s interview…he claimed that after he was pulled from the tree..when the bear started making popping sounds with his teeth..Marois just lay there and started preying to God.

Soon after that the bear simply left..leaving us to ponder if God really was responsible for the bear giving up…

Early on, when he was still in the tree, Marois burnt the bear with a lighter..till it swatted him across the face.

      The guy was a fighter!

  2. I just got a note sent home from my childrens school in Kemptville where a bear was sighted near the school property this morning around 6 am. Maybe a child in a school yard being mauled might get someones attention. Lets hope not!!!

    1. Oh Tom, that’s not good at all..has the school said when is being done about this situation..ie. the Ministry being notified?

  3. Yes they notified the ministry which just happens to be across the street. The Conservation Officer told them that the bears are on the move looking for food and water and that with the noises from the excavation going on in the adjacent lot that should keep the bear away.

  4. thank God he survived! that sounds horrifying to say the least!

i hope the govt will look at reinstating it, but I fear it’s much like the gun registry where they’ll stand their ground so they don’t admit they were incredibly wrong!

les idiots is what they are!
