Ontario Federation of Anglers & Hunters (OFAH)

What is the Ontario Federation of Anglers & Hunters doing to help manage the province’s fish & wildlife?

I realize they have been involved with wild turkey relocation projects over the years, and have participated in many wetland rehab and preservation initiatives. They do seem to speak out on behalf of hunters and fishermen, but what have they done lately?

Does anyone know? If you’re an active member who goes to meetings, please drop me a line.

  1. They sell memberships, and with that you get an insurance policy, a magazine, a window sticker and sometimes a cheap knife. Oh and if you haven’t seen the head office you should have a look. They obviously spend membership money on the facility and equipment (they have every piece of equipment known to man and could outfit a small army), and taxidermy (the interior has an amazing collection). Needless to say I’m ot a member.

WOW Chessy, that’s unlike you. Here’s your chance buddy, run with it. No censorship here

  2. I used to be a member but found that most of the activity that was done was done in the peterbourgh area. The Ottawa valley never recieved any attention.Like all our taxes,it goes where most of it’s members are (TORONTO)

  3. Well I am sure the OFAH has web crawlers out there that will eventually find this post and I hope that Jeff does not cave to political correctness or the sun if forced to take this post down.
    C/p from Canadian wildlife federation
Let’s leave wildlife where it belongs — in the wild! CWF has for many years fought to prevent the establishment of game farming in Canada. Game farming is the practice of owning and raising ungulates for the purpose of selling any or all of its parts. Intensive game farming will contribute to the reduction or eradication of such predators as wolves, bears and raptors, which are seen as detrimental to livestock. Farmers are capturing free-ranging wildlife, despite assurances by government and the game-farming industry that such impoundments would not occur. Since breeding stock remains costly, fledgling game farmers are strongly tempted to capture wild animals.
The above is c/p from there website. Why bring this up about the ofah, well the ofah is partners with them in the Atlantic salmon project
Although I may be wrong but I personally would never be in favor of any type of legal hunting. The ofah is supposed to be fighting anti groups like this but instead they are partners with them. I have heard the saying keep your enemies close and your friends closer but this is SICK

They say and I quote with over 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters, and 660 member clubs, the O.F.A.H. is the largest nonprofit, charitable, fishing, hunting and conservation-based organization in Ontario, and the voice of anglers and hunters.

No I did not make a mistake on copy and paste these are three different “signatures ” that they end there letter in. are they so proud as they will not use the first one where they say hunting i know they say hunting in all three but it looses something when it is said at the end something like when you introduce your family the bad sibling is always last and they say they are the voice of hunters and angerlers that is true they have a measly 100 000 (there is 1.7 millon fisher men in ontario) members some of witch are doubles and ones that are forced to have 2 or 3 or even 4 memberships due to clubs being forced into have to have ofah for insurance . Insurance, yes insurance that you or any other member is not allowed to see a copy of the policy, YES you are legally not allowed to see the policy, but if you have homeowners insurance you are covered and even farmers and landowners have a policy that covers non-insured incidents. But here is the kicker if you commit an illegal act there is NO insurance as any policy that I have read is null and void in a criminal activity. So this brings up full circle to the insurance issue how the heck did the ofah bambosal the simcoe county forest into have a ofah membership (for insurance porpose) if not one member of council seen the policy (the reason you can see the policy is because ever member would have to sign a waiver for individual to see it) and i did not sign for the simcoe county to read it so did the ofah break the law and show them or they signed in good faith. The reason I can complain like this is I am a member. My grandfather once said to me if you don’t vote you can’t complain. If the ofah is allowed to continue like this there might not be any hunting or fishing in Ontario. Like many organizations they start out great then it’s all about diverting money to keep them in a job or fund their projects

  4. oh and attending meetings …. if you ask a question you are told …. it doesnt concern you we are working on it behind the scenes……. im not a good enuough typer to continue… my sugesstion is every one go to a meeting and see how your money is spent… 50 cents a km for them to drive to a meeting .. and they (commitee) says thats not enuff to pay for the cost for there trucks.. the industry standard is 38 cents.. your membership money is paying for them to drive and stay in motels when needed… heck we pay for there spouces to go to the sportsman show and stay in fine hotels..

  5. Chessy, man, your rant against CWF doesn’t make sense. Not even a little. How did you turn game farming into hunting? CWF is the national federation for all provincial angler and hunting federations. OFAh is against game farming too. What does CWF do for Atlantic salmon?

  6. Oh and Bill Trudeau, if you’ve been inside their building, maybe you saw all the donation plaques dedicated to the people and companies who paid for the building…not the member dues. The new one is funded by some rich dude too, and the taxidermy is all donated. I would have thought that was obvious…they talk about it all the time. Perhaps you should join and find all this out.

  7. smarter than this says. then tell me why we need the ofah if we have the cwf…. worse than polititions … 2 of everthing.. money wasted.. i can read your mind ???? but its good for canadain jobs right…

  8. Just now I signed on to OFAH.org, it is ltoo big to be readable, I clicked full screen and it destroyed my IE8
settings requiring a reboot. The May 26th website version was captured/cached by Google, be careful…

OFAH claims to be a Canadian charity, very interesting.
