Valley Fishing & Outdoor Show this weekend!!

Get ready folks, the Valley Fishing & Outdoor Show is here!!

The 15th annual Valley Fishing and Outdoor Show arrives this weekend in Carp! The brainchild of my old pal Dave Arbour, this year’s show is set to run from this Friday March 27th until Sun March 29th at the Carp Fairgrounds and Arena, and will feature everything from casting ponds to archery, shooting and fishing simulators.

With more than 100 exhibitors and lots of hunting and fishing equipment this truly is the best the valley has to offer. And this year, I will there hanging out in my very own booth.

Stop by and say hi to the Outdoors Guy!

From Dave’s Site:

Located at the W. Erskine Johnston Arena 3882, Carp Rd off the 417.

The Valley Fishing & Outdoor Show – Come get your Redneck On

The Valley Fishing and Outdoors Show has gone REDNECK CRAZY.

The Carp Fairgrounds and Arena is located in the Village of Carp (3832 Carp Road) and is once again the site of this year’s event – the largest of its kind.  Three buildings will be hosting the event this year, with one building dedicated just to firearms for sale or trade. The fairground offers lots of free parking.

This year has it all – with boats,  to get you on the water, outfitters to help you plan your next great adventure getaway, and tackle shops and hunting gear to help outfit you for your season. This year’s show is full of great prizes thanks to our many sponsors. You could win a pair of Monster Spectacular tickets for May 30th at the CTC Centre, fishing rods at the casting pond, a Muskie charter from Muskie Canada or a cookbook from Jeff Morrison “The Outdoors Guy”. This year’s event is truly interactive and a family oriented event with games for the kids and young at heart to test your skills in shooting, archery, casting and fishing, soap carving, fly tying and more.

New this year is Fish Cleaning demonstrations by Jeff McNaughton from MNRF and “Ask the Butcher” with Steve Moss from Mossy’s Smoke Shop. Their demonstrations and tips of the trade will help you turn that trophy catch into a tasty treat. Also new this year will be live entertainment from the Felhaver Band on Sunday to help you kick off the winter blues and put a “jig” in your step as you get ready for spring and the new fishing & hunting season. Amanda Kingsland from Y101 will be on hand Saturday on the main stage to host “The Redneck Runway”, a fashion show of all the new and latest clothing to help keep you warm, dry and looking your best.

Seminars: We are pleased to be offering an outstanding line-up of presenters on the main stage this year.  John Anderson one of the world’s foremost renound Muskie speakers and television guest and tournament pro will be on the main stage Friday and Saturday.   Canadian Hall of Fame inductee Big Jim McLaughlin will take the stage Sunday. Big Jim has been an integral part of Canadian sport fishing for 30 years and is always a hit at the Show.  The Ottawa Fly Fishing Society will also be taking the main stage on Friday evening.  They will also be giving demonstrations and lessons on tying flies throughout the weekend.  Saturday Len Dickinson will present on “the travelling hunter”.  Len is an avid globe–trotting hunter who will be sure to pass on his tips to make sure your next hunting trip is a memorable one.

The third building at the show will house the Gun Show.  Admission to the Fishing & Outdoor Show also gets you into this venue.  A Show within a Show! There will be 50 tables of firearms for sale and trade.  These vendors will help you find the perfect firearm for your upcoming hunting season.

So come on out and get your REDNECK on. Free parking and reasonable admission rates, makes this an affordable outing for the whole family.

Bring in your receipt and ID to Dave’s Hunter Saftey Booth and write your Turkey Exam at the show!

  1. Thanks for the update Jeff…
I’ve been so busy lately, haven’t even thought of the show.
Time flies by so fast, if you hadn’t posted this, in a couple of weeks I’d be saying “Gee, when is the Carp show?”. Whew, that was a close one…
    Cheers,

    1. Well Herman…by all means if you go, stop by my booth to say hi!

I’ll be in need of friends..hehe

  2. Jeff, you will have a booth?

I’m schedule to tie flies and represent the Ottawa Flyfishers Society (OFS) Saturday afternoon with other members. My name is still on as volunteer, if needed, for this evening, tomorrow morning and/or Sunday.

FYI, here is the Province of Quebec link to the new costs of buying permits:

Also, Quebec lost its cause for the long-gun registry data. Glad that’s over with.

    1. Hey LeGrand..cool seeing you today at the SHow..been awhile since we talked face to face, and hey, I did not gain weight!

I stopped by the Flyfishers booth in the am, before I realized you were coming…

P.S. You really think QC is done with the long-gun registry data? My guess is that most of it is sitting somewhere on a memory stick..hehe

      1. AWESOME weekend in Carp, the Valley Fishing & Outdoor Show was fab fab fab! I can’t say enough about this year’s show, and my first as an exhibitor. Congrats to Dave Arbour on another terrific job, and a big thanks for including me (& my books) in some of the festivities!

I must have chatted with 300 people over the course of the weekend, and even bellowed out a few moose calls. To gather a group of people the likes of which I met this weekend is hard to come by, anywhere else in the entire region!!

Hunters, fishermen and trappers are truly salt of the earth..you dont beleive that? Come to the show next year!!

  3. Nice seeing you also.

Enjoyed my time at the table, tying a few flies (Mickey-Finn & Muddler Minnows), answering lots of questions, promoting our Club, and mentoring kids with on-hand fly-tying techniques. The kids just loved leaving with their own fly tied by them.

As for the registry data: Would not surprise me if the Sureté du QC kept an illegal file on Quebecers’ gun registry for the Political Party in power.

Yes I did mention an illegal act by an organisation upheld to hold the law.

This was all political and supported by higher up in Sureté du QC and RCMP’s honcho’s for political gain. None of the law enforcers on the ground wanted this registry, since the old one prior to C-68 was very effective. What a waste of citizens money.

Now the Lyeberal QC Government want’s to create its own. Only $30 million estimate, but hey Remember C-68 their yearly initial estimate was what $2-3 millions? Guess they did not know how to spell millions (m=b).

    1. Tks LG..glad you got to hang out with the Flyfisher guys. Such a great organization..as are many who showed their presence this weekend.

Muskie’s Canada, Ontario Fur Managers Federation, etc etc…OFAH was there also, but I never got a chance to chat with them…

  4. I hear the show was packed on Saturday, I was there right before it opened helping a friend with a gun table. I ran into Dave Arbour and hardly recognized him, but I knew it was him when I heard him growl at guests. I find the show too early but obviously it is a success. No Adrian Hare and Quaker Boy this year either. He’s still in Florida the lucky bugger but I thought maybe someone else would step in for him. It’s not long till hunting season

    1. Hey Iggs, yeah Dave was certainly there..but not feeling 100%. He just had a pretty major surgery couple weeks back and isnt back on track yet. He did his best tho, made the rounds..hung out at his booth etc. He had a supper team under him who ran the thing like a well-oiled machine!!

I cant say enough about those guys..really is a labour of love.lots a laughs too!

No Gobbler Guru this year I suppose but lots of other turkey vendors and enthusiasts. Man I had a great time chatting with everyone..

Hey..ever go to Beckwith Butcher in Carleton Place? I met Rob Carpenter for the first time..what a guy, kept my daughter and I in food the entire weekend..mm….ribs, chicken, sausage, bacon..all done on this special grill they sell.

      Me likey…

  5. I’ve had moose and deer done by him. I don’t use him now because we have a guy closer to one of our guys but never had any complaints about his work

    1. Yeah Iggs..he told me they do a pile of deer and some moose in the fall. He also did a good seminar on proper meat care during(& after) the hunt. He told me som horror stories of how badly some guys treat their animals ‘post harvest’

      Outdoorsguy

  6. I’ll say Jeff… Years ago we flew out of Nakina on a moose hunt. The guys that got off the plane we were taking unloaded moose quarters that looked like they were dragged through the mud. I thought “Man, what a waste.” Why even bother to go on a hunt, take animal, (especially now with reported numbers down) and then treat it like that? Too bad they don’t get their knuckles rapped…

    1. Herman, I believe there are provisions in the F&W Conservation Act regarding ‘allowing game meat to waste’..I’m not sure how that would apply to game that is improperly treated which, in effect, is the same thing! I know what you mean tho..seeing this sort of things makes me sick.

If ‘Matt’ is around..he knows firsthand about game meat going to waste.

Sooo…Turkey hunting on the way boys and girls, where are the gobblers hiding:
